14.04.2027 - 16.04.2027 VHCF10 – 10th International Conference on Very High Cycle Fatigue

10th International Conference on Very High Cycle Fatigue>

When a billion cycles change the rules

From 14 to 16 April 2027, the international Very High Cycle Fatigue community returns to Paris—where this conference series began in 1998—for VHCF10. Hosted at the historic Arts et Métiers campus and co-organised with the Fatigue Commission of SF2M as part of its 16th International Spring Meeting, the conference connects fundamental fatigue science with the reliability challenges of components expected to survive hundreds of millions or even billions of cycles.

VHCF10 brings together researchers, engineers and industrial specialists from around the world. The programme spans failure mechanisms beyond 10⁸ cycles, advanced testing and characterisation, modelling, statistical design and applications across aerospace, automotive, energy, transport, microelectronics and medical devices.

Scientific focus and mini-symposia

Alongside the core themes of mechanisms, experimental methods, modelling and structural applications, seven focused mini-symposia open the discussion to emerging scientific and industrial questions:

  • Grain refinement effects during high and very high cycle fatigue loading
  • Industrial case studies in aerospace, automotive, energy, transport, microelectronics and medical devices
  • Very high cycle fatigue of additively manufactured materials
  • Advanced numerical simulation for very large numbers of loading cycles
  • Very high cycle fatigue of polymer composites
  • Developments in ultrasonic fatigue testing
  • Statistical modelling, defects and size effects in very high cycle fatigue

Plenary perspectives

Five internationally recognised experts will connect frontier research with practical reliability—from high-temperature materials and internal crack growth to alloy design, defect statistics and data-driven prediction:

  • Anja Weidner – VHCF at high temperatures, from 42CrMo4 steel to nickel-based superalloys
  • Takashi Nakamura – synchrotron X-ray CT of naturally initiated internal fatigue cracks
  • Tresa M. Pollock – designing fatigue-resistant structural materials
  • Davide Paolino – size effects, defects and statistical modelling in VHCF
  • Guian Qian – microstructure generation and fatigue-life prediction for additively manufactured alloys
